Dr. Minnie Frances Hayden Howard, “Pocatello’s pioneer woman physician”, was born in 1872 in Memphis, Missouri. She married William Forrest Howard in 1894 and graduated from Kansas University Women’s Medical School. The Drs. Howard settled and established medical practices in Pocatello in 1902. In 1904, Minnie helped establish the Pocatello Women’s Civic Club, acting as chair of the library committee. Under her vigorous leadership, the club secured the necessary permissions and funding to build the original Pocatello Public Library. After a lifetime of leadership, service, and scholarship, Dr. Minnie Howard passed away in 1965. Pax requiescat in virtute.
